From Boyhood Dreams to a Fragrance Island: Kourtisanes Fragrances Brings High-End Perfume to Pingtan

I. Boyhood Days on the Northern Shore of Junshan

The sea on the northern shore of Junshan has always been this way — impossibly blue.

Wild narcissus grow against the wind — on the slopes, in rocky crevices, behind walls and around the corners of houses.

More than forty years ago, there was no coastal ring road here, and few people ever came.

Two barefoot boys lay on the grass, watching the white clouds drift by, talking about the future. The wind tousled their hair and carried the scent of narcissus to their noses — that cool, slender, uncompromising fragrance.

They never imagined that, decades later, they would turn the untamed breath of plants growing freely in the wild into their life's work.

II. From Wandering to Returning

In the years that followed, each of them traveled to many faraway places.

One achieved remarkable success in engineering and technology; the other spent over twenty years in the perfume and essential oil trade.

But no matter where they went, they would always, at some unguarded moment, think of that sea of flowers on the northern shore of Junshan. That crisp, pure fragrance was like a quiet calling — buried deep in memory, never loud, but always there.

A few years ago, riding the momentum of the International Tourism Island initiative, they made a decision: return to Pingtan and create perfumes.

Pingtan has no shortage of sea breeze, stones, or stories. But making internationally high-end perfumes? It sounded like building a castle on sand.

Most people around them didn't understand.

This was no sudden impulse. It was slowly reclaiming a seed planted in their childhood hearts.

They also believe that Pingtan's strategic blueprint is steadily becoming reality — the future of the International Tourism Island is full of promise.

And isn't a high-end perfume, a modern perfume factory, exactly what "internationalization" truly means?

They chose the French brand Kourtisanes. They would use pure bio-extraction to gently "awaken" the soul of plants.

III. Building a Fragrant Island in Pingtan

Real investment — 150 million RMB in the first phase. On this International Tourism Island, a quiet factory campus has risen, capable of producing 30 million bottles of perfume per year.

Last month, Zhou Zuyi, Secretary of the Fujian Provincial Party Committee, visited the factory and spent nearly an hour in the fragrance showroom. He listened and observed with great interest, offering constructive guidance.

The lights often burn late into the night. From raw material import to extraction techniques, from laboratory standards to production line setup — every step must withstand scrutiny.

Sino-French cooperation ensures quality. French perfumer Steven Carl is based in Pingtan, leading R&D experiments.

Blue Tears Perfume, Fairy Well Spring, Lan Yun Narcissus — Chinese names, world-class fragrances. They believe that scent carries memory, and memory carries warmth.

A good perfume should not just smell pleasant — it should transport you, with a single whiff, to a certain sea, a certain breeze, a certain afternoon that can never be relived.

IV. Bringing Faraway Places Home for Travelers

Some call Pingtan the Island of Wind.

The wind brings the Blue Tears, and it also brings the distance.

And they, with Kourtisanes, have bottled this sea, this wind, this starry sky.

It is not a deliberate romance. It is two men who grew up on the northern shore of Junshan, connecting their childhood, their homeland, and the world — in their own way.

Just like those wild narcissus from childhood —

Not showy, not eager to please, just quietly releasing their own fragrance in the wind.
